My Saturday Night

My favourite past time in Sydney, is usually grabbing a few bites to eat and a drink with a couple of friends on a Friday or Saturday night.

This week, upon descending onto Sydney I hit up Tontaro, Ramen Honten.

Tontaro comes from the staff of a previously beloved Sydney insitution, Ramen Ossan, and is a huge step up from what was already a store whose food I enjoyed greatly.

I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, for $15 (totalling $17.40), with extra bamboo shoots; and as compared to other notable Sydney joints like Gumshara and Menya, the soup wasn't particularly thick, but still had a smooth, lustrous taste; the prok was perfectly cooked and the noodles were firm and springy.

The price tag was a little higher than other comparable stores, but the food and atmosphere (lovingly displaying subtitled episodes of One Piece atop the counter) as well as the eating space not feeling too crowded in, nor too spacious perfectly complemented the overall experience.

Tontaro comes highly recommended, and I'd love to visit again!

After grabbing a couple of bowls of Ramen, we saw fit to visit Bancho, on the recommendation of a friend. Upon slipping inside, we were greeted by a suave and trendy space, with ample seating and a broad Whiskey menu. Due to our current status, as underemployed students we only managed to grab one drink apiece before setting off to the first pub we could slide into, however the Apple and Ginger Highball was incredibly refreshing, and able to be customised by several Whiskey varieties from around the globe. Overall an enjoyable scene with good drinks, and what seemed to us a versatile menu for those who enjoy their Whiskey, though a little out of our price range!

What Sydney Means to Me

Throughout our last few posts, we've discussed what to see and do, but not necessarily a personal connection. Sydney is a global city, who has developed and moved into the future alongside those who both live here and visit. Sydney's culture is broad, both traditionally Australian and able to connect on a broader, global scale. From nights out, to looking for something special for a close friend or current romantic interest; to attending concerts and other events. Sydney has been an integral part of my personal life, and I'm very happy to have posted about a few things to see and do when visiting. It's impossible to cover everything, so my most succinct Sydney Advice is this: see it for yourself, wander around, experience it without just referring to tips, or lists. Holey Moley: Mini Golf

If you’re looking to wind down on a Sunday afternoon and just have an enjoyable time with your friends, Holey Moley is the place to be! I personally went to the course in Potts Point this past weekend and had a great time. https://www.holeymoley.com.au/ There’s a variation of courses to have a go on and bars dot the venue, so there’s alcohol to fuel the fun if that’s your thing. Despite it being slow moving if you’re stuck behind a larger group, this gives an opportunity to have a sip and have a chat. And the staff were more than friendly (I was even able to snag a free extra round!). Whether you don’t have a competitive bone in your body, or you were born with a golf putt in your hand, it’s impossible not to have fun.   Having multiple locations to go have a putt is also a bonus! Courses can be found in Castle Hill, Newtown and Potts Point, so there's no excuses not to give it a go! - Anthony
