Taronga Zoo

Hey again everyone!

I know my usual posts are about the beach, but I promise today's won't disappoint! Let me introduce you to Taronga Zoo! A place for families, couples, and individuals found in the suburb of Mosman!

Taronga Zoo opened in October 1916 with over 4,000 animals spread around 21 hectares. The zoo is open all year round, 9:30am - 5:00pm including Christmas Day! But, how can you get there?

  • Ferry: 12 minutes from Circular Quay, the ferries run every 30 minutes.
  • Bus: the M30 Metro Bus travels there every 10 - 15 minutes from Wynyard, Town Hall, and Central train stations
  • Bus: the 238 bus travels between Balmoral Beach, the zoo's main entrance and ferry wharf
  • Driving: there is parking available at the zoo, with an all-day parking rate of $18

There is so much to see and do at Taronga Zoo, such as the Tiger Trek, the Sky Safari, and even the Vivid light show! Vivid at Taronga Zoo only runs from the 24th May - 15th June where the entire zoo is filled with spectacular lights and sculptures that share the story of wildlife conservation.

It's important to know that Taronga Zoo is committed to the conservation of wildlife in Australia.

  • They collaborate with government agencies and organisations to discover strategies that will help recover native species that are facing threat.
  • Their Wildlife Hospital rehabilitates upwards 1,400 injured or orphaned wildlife each year.
  • They have dedicated the next decade from 2016 to the conservation of 10 critical species.

Did you know: "Taronga Zoo's Chimpanzee community is internationally recognised as one of the most natural in terms of social cohesion, behaviour, and breeding." - taronga.org.au

I hope you enjoyed this post and learned more about one of Sydney's icons!

Until next time,

Jessica
