What Sydney Means to Me

Image
Throughout our last few posts, we've discussed what to see and do, but not necessarily a personal connection. Sydney is a global city, who has developed and moved into the future alongside those who both live here and visit. Sydney's culture is broad, both traditionally Australian and able to connect on a broader, global scale. From nights out, to looking for something special for a close friend or current romantic interest; to attending concerts and other events. Sydney has been an integral part of my personal life, and I'm very happy to have posted about a few things to see and do when visiting. It's impossible to cover everything, so my most succinct Sydney Advice is this: see it for yourself, wander around, experience it without just referring to tips, or lists. Obviously, these help sharpen direction and offer a launching point, but don't use them exclusively. Photo by Blake Sydney is an adventure, but also something relatable and familiar. Don't be

A Night in Sydney - Circular Quay

Image
Sydney has some pretty good views, but none of them are quite like the view of Sydney's Circular Quay sitting on the water and watching ferries, boats and cruise liners sail in and out as the sun sets with a glass of champagne in hand. First stop on our harbour side evening was the iconic Opera Bar   for a seat right on the water right under the famous Sydney Opera House. While drinks and food may have seemed a little expensive at first the view quickly begins to make it all pay off as nothing compares to the view of Sydney's harbour during sunset and places like Opera Bar are the perfect place to do it. URL Next stop on our trip around Circular Quay was the lush vista bar Hacienda   which once again features a fantastic view of Sydney's harbour; sitting on level three, this bar rises above the rest and with it's Cuban inspired aesthetic Hacienda feels like a true escape from Sydney's city. The cocktails were try unique and fantastic - inspired by fresh C

Holey Moley: Mini Golf

Image
If you’re looking to wind down on a Sunday afternoon and just have an enjoyable time with your friends, Holey Moley is the place to be! I personally went to the course in Potts Point this past weekend and had a great time. https://www.holeymoley.com.au/ There’s a variation of courses to have a go on and bars dot the venue, so there’s alcohol to fuel the fun if that’s your thing. Despite it being slow moving if you’re stuck behind a larger group, this gives an opportunity to have a sip and have a chat. And the staff were more than friendly (I was even able to snag a free extra round!). Whether you don’t have a competitive bone in your body, or you were born with a golf putt in your hand, it’s impossible not to have fun.   Having multiple locations to go have a putt is also a bonus! Courses can be found in Castle Hill, Newtown and Potts Point, so there's no excuses not to give it a go! - Anthony

Macquarie Centre - Event Cinemas

Image
Macquarie Centre is one of Sydney's, and the countries largest shopping centre. It serves as a major hub, as it serves the shopping and transport needs for the North Sydney. The introduction of the Sydney Metro will only strengthen its importance within the Northern Sydney region. URL Macquarie Centre contains 275 stores, all arranged in a twisting, maze-like staircase. There are a vast array of stores, ranging from international department stores, to small food shops. The centre also contains a range of activities, including one of the few ice skating rinks in Sydney, and a cinema. Event Cinema's is found near the vast array of restaurants that you see upon entry. The cinema contains a large snack bar, and a gold class lounge, where people can have a few drinks prior to their movie. I watched Avengers: Endgame in one of the many showings they have daily for it. The seats were comfortable, however they didn't compare to the higher quality reclining seats found at

Look in a Book

Image
Sydney is a land of many subcultures, and today I'd like to make a post about a few bookstores in the Sydney CBD I'm a huge fan of. First and foremost is Kinokuniya, a behemoth of the Sydney bookstore scene. Kinokuniya has a huge range of subculture books, comics, and manga, in Japanese, English and Chinese! Located right on top of the Town Hall station, in the top floor of the Galleries Victoria, it is easy to get to, and is almost an entire floor of book loving heaven. If you're in Sydney long enough, the staff do orders, too! From art, to architecture, to Japanese Pulp Fiction, Kinokuniya has most everything you could need. Close to Kinokuniya, is Galaxy Books, a Science Fiction bookstore with a very wide range; holding onto many rare or exciting titles! If Kinokuniya doesn't have what you need, Galaxy might, and vice versa! Looking for Secondhand Japanese titles, or Japanese dubs on DVD of popular Western Films? Look no further than Hondarake (full of books) l
